CSU Dance Welcomes Consul General of Canada

Joseph Comartin will visit masterclass featuring Canadian-based RUBBERBANDance

Cleveland State University and DANCECleveland are pleased to announce that the Consul General of Canada to Detroit, Joseph Comartin, will visit Cleveland and attend a master class presented by Canadian-based contemporary dance company, RUBBERBANDance.

He will arrive at Cleveland State University’s Dance Studio, located at 1901 E 13th St., on Friday, November 8th at 4 p.m. to meet with Victor Quijada, artistic director and choreographer of RUBBERBANDance Group, as well as company dancers.

There will be a brief Facebook live discussion with Mr. Quijada & Consul General Comartin hosted by DANCECleveland at 4:30 pm. This will be followed at 5 p.m. by welcoming remarks from Consul General Comartin to local northeast Ohio dancers before the master class begins.

Joseph Comartin began his career in Canadian politics in 2000 when he was elected as a Member of Parliament for Windsor-Tecumseh. During his tenure from 2001 to 2016 he served as opposition house leader and deputy speaker of The House of Commons. Mr. Comartin was appointed as Canada’s Consul General to Detroit in autumn of 2018.

Founded in 2002 by Victor Quijada, RUBBERBANDance Group is recognized worldwide for its innovation, its significant contribution in dance and for its role in the development of a new style inspired by breakdancing, ballet and dance theatre.
