CSU Celebrates Women’s History Month

Women’s History Month became a national celebration in 1981, when Congress passed a resolution which authorized and requested the President to proclaim the week beginning March 7, 1982 as “Women’s History Week.”?

Throughout the next five years, Congress continued to pass joint resolutions designating a week in March, but in 1987, after being petitioned by the National Women’s History Project, Congress passed “Pub. L. 100-9” which designated the month of March 1987 as “Women’s History Month.”

Since then, annual proclamations celebrate the contributions women have made in the United States, recognizing specific achievements women across a variety of fields. Cleveland State University shares in the celebration with these engaging events:

Tue 3/1 Courageous Conversations: The Untold Stories of Women in LeadHERship

Women make up fewer than ten percent of national leaders worldwide. Behind this eye-opening statistic lies a pattern of unequal access to power. A powerful call-to-action is needed to achieve equality in leadership. “The Untold Stories of Women in LeadHERship” panel dives into gender bias and sexism and how both affect perceptions of women as leaders. Why aren’t women in leadership roles? What will it take to change the inequity? Details.

Wed 3/2 Dessert & Discuss: Women’s History Month and the LGBTQ+ Community

Honoring LGBTQ women and allies who are leading the fight for equality and leadership is more important tha ever to achieve gender justice for marginalized communities across the U.S. and around the world. Come enjoy a treat and talk LGBTQ+ topics at the “Women's History Month & the LGBTQ+ Community” edition of the “Dessert & Discuss” series, held in-person on Wednesdays at 4 p.m. in the LGBTQ+ Center, Berkman Hall 211. Thu 3/3 A Celebration of Women in the Arts and Healthcare

This interactive networking opportunity takes place in the Student Center Atrium from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. Celebrate the accomplishments of women and take the opportunity to mentor them at CSU. Light refreshments, local vendors, ad various offices on campus will be represented along with a local artist, who will provide opportunities to paint some images relating to Women’s History Month.

Thu 3/3 Viking Women’s Basketball Horizon League Quarterfinal

Viking Basketball is ready to a Horizon League Tournament Quarterfinal at the Wolstein Center! Cheer on your Lady Vikes as they tip off at 5:30 p.m. Come hang in the student section and score some free pizza, cookies, t-shirts, prizes and more an hour later! Can’t get enough hoops? Stick around for the doubleheader, as the Viking Men’s team takes the floor at 8 p.m. Tickets?are available online.

Thu 3/3 Kiara Booker: Blaque Cleveland Thursday Night Artist Talk?

This self-taught visual artist works deftly in the acrylic medium—delivering breathtaking visual meditations on Black femininity, strength and resolve. Her work is integral to the Blaque Cleveland exhibition now on view at The Galleries at CSU. Kiara Booker’s Blaque Cleveland Artist Talk will explore these bold works and inner visions; her desire to combine mediums into her expanding repertoire, and how she maintains a limitless desire for art. Mon 3/7 (repeating weekly): Unite for Reproductive & Gender Equity (URGE)

Join URGE (Unite for Reproductive & Gender Equity) in fighting for gender equity, reproductive justice, abortion access and racial justice! Every week, we swap ideas for how to create positive and lasting change together! Join URGE online beginning at 5 p.m. Anyone looking for a safe space to express themselves and an accepting support system is welcome!!! Details.

Mon 3/7 and Wed 3/9: The Heroine’s Journey: How to Write Your Own Success Story

Using the classic Hero’s Journey as a template, The Heroine’s Journey is a women’s development session on how to overcome barriers and fuel advancement with career and life goals. Dealing specifically with circumstantial and self-imposed barriers when opportunity calls, as well as vulnerabilities during and after transformation, this immersion provides specific, actionable steps to chart your own course forward to positive, meaningful change. Wed 3/9: Women’s Healthcare and Wellness

Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. holds their “Spring 22 Skee Wee,” celebrating celebrate Women’s Healthcare and Wellness at the CSU Recreation Center, 2420 Chester Ave. The sorority cultivates and encourages high scholastic and ethical standards; unity and friendship among college women, to help young girls and women improve social stature and maintain a progressive interest in college life. Thu 3/17 –?Sat 3/19: Women in Cybersecurity Conferene (WiCyS) 2022

The Ninth Annual Women in Cybersecurity Conference (WiCyS)?is not only the flagship conference for women in cybersecurity but, regardless of gender, is the largest cybersecurity conference with equal representation of professionals and students! WiCyS 2022 is the go-to event to help organizations recruit, retain and advance women in cybersecurity—all while creating a community of engagement, encouragement and support at a technical conference. Locally hosted by the Cleveland Consortium led by Cleveland State University and held at the Huntington Convention Center! Details.
