CLEVELAND, Ohio (May 4, 2022) – Cleveland State University’s Cleveland-Marshall College of Law achieved an 80% pass rate for first-time Ohio Bar exam takers, ranking it #1 among Ohio law schools on the February 2022 bar exam.

The American Bar Association bases its accreditation standards and U.S. News and World Report bases its national rankings on first-time bar exam passage rates.

For the February 2022 exam in Ohio, 304 applicants sat for the exam, and 143 (47%) passed. Among them, 130 were first-time test takers, 66.9% of whom received passing scores.

Cleveland-Marshall placed ahead of University of Dayton (75%); The Ohio State University and The University of Akron (both at 67%); University of Toledo (65%); Capital University (64%); University of Cincinnati (50%), and Case Western Reserve University and Ohio Northern (both at 33%).

Cleveland-Marshall College of Law offers its students complimentary programs to help prepare for the Ohio Bar Exam and assigns a faculty mentor for each one throughout their final two years of law school.

“The mentor serves as a sounding board during the final weeks of bar preparation, to ensure they are planning and preparing for the exam,” said Lee Fisher, dean of Cleveland-Marshall College of Law.

CSU Cleveland-Marshall College of Law Ranks #1 for First-time Ohio Bar Exam Takers“Cleveland-Marshall faculty experts review bar exam topics for graduates preparing for the exam and provide a commercial bar exam preparation course to students at no cost beyond their tuition,” Fisher said. “It’s clear students who take advantage of these programs and do the work pass the bar.”

A strategic bar passage program includes a partnership with Bar Preparation provider BARBRI (barbri.com) and comprehensive academic success programs which includes Jump Start 2, which aids 2L students with MBE (or multiple-choice) questions and other Uniform Bar Exam (UBE) success strategies.??

?The February 2022 Ohio Bar exam marks the first in-person for testing since the Covid-19 pandemic forced remote testing beginning in the summer 2020. Further, first-time takers of February’s test spent much of their law school career during the pandemic and the many challenges it presented.

“We are likely to see some challenging years ahead as the effects of the pandemic ripple through legal education. Our investment in student success and commitment to rigorous academic standards will be critical to our future success,” said Fisher.
